A Secret about Secrets

As I was studying this morning, I read Mark 4:22, which states, "For everything that is hidden will eventually be brought into the open, and every secret will be brought to light." So I decided to delve deeper into the meaning of this verse and how it can transform our lives.

Mark 4:22 is a verse that speaks about the revealing of hidden things. When Jesus said these words, He was referring to the fact that the things we keep hidden and buried, will eventually be uncovered. This means that the secrets that we hold will eventually be revealed. Does this mean every secret that we have should be shared with everyone? Nott! God's timing is the best, and we need to follow His guidance. God intends not to shame or embarrass us but to bring us to a place of healing and restoration. Once we walk in restoration, those secrets tucked away become a testimony for us to glorify God and share what He has done in our lives. Through our testimonies, we can be a blessing and bring hope to others. It's interesting to note that this verse follows the parable of the lamp, where Jesus talks about not hiding the light but letting it shine.

Mark 4:21-25 "And he said unto them, Is a candle brought to be put under a bushel, or a bed? and not to be set on a candlestick? For there is nothing hidden, which shall not be manifested; neither was anything kept secret, but it should come abroad. If any man has ears to hear, let him hear. And he said unto them, Take heed what ye hear: with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you: and unto you that hear shall more be given. He that hath, to him shall be given: and he that hath not, from him shall be taken even that which he hath. "

If we have a light of any kind and cover it and do not let it shine, it cannot function for the purpose it was designed to fulfill. The lamp is meant to produce light to shine brightly and not be doused. Symbolically, the purpose of the light is to expose sin and convict hearts. Once the light is shining where it needs to, we are more likely to have open ears to hear the good news of salvation. The lamp itself, represents the characteristics of God, beaming with love, joy, peace, and hope in a dark world. Have you ever looked at a bright light or stared at the sun, and when you looked away, it was blinding, and you were still impacted? I want the light of God to shine so brightly through me that even when I am not around, people are still affected by the brightness of God's light! I want the glow of God radiating from me to shine so brightly that it lights a pathway that points others on their way to a relationship with Christ. I pray that I can be used as a beacon so they, too, can experience His goodness and all of the things He has to offer!

Don't be afraid to let your light shine, even if it means revealing imperfections and weaknesses. When we are transparent and vulnerable, God can use us in powerful ways. When the timing is right, don't be afraid to share what God has done in your life and glorify His Kingdom. Rick Warren said it best: "When you give it to God, He transforms your test into a testimony, your mess into a message, and your misery into a ministry." Be proud of what God has brought you through, and walk in restoration, sharing the Goodness of God that has been poured out on your life. The "secret about secrets" is having the willingness to allow them to be a testimony to what God has done in your life! Let your light be so bright that it is mesmerizing to others! May God's light shine so brightly within you, through you, and around you that it serves as a compass, leading others directly into the path to Jesus! ©Rita Larson 4/12/2023
