"And Then Suddenly....."

Today, I was pondering my life four years ago. I had no idea that June 22, 2019 would change the trajectory of my life forever. Four years ago, I was bitter but content with my life. With a hardened heart, I had decided after a devastating divorce that I just wanted to be alone. I did not need nor want to be in a relationship with anyone ever again. That was my plan, but I am so grateful today that it was not God's plan. God knew exactly what I needed, what we needed! I met Brian on June 22, 2019, and little did I know, my life would be changed forever. Suddenly, when I least expected it, God gave me so much more than I ever thought possible. Today, I am married to my best friend and soulmate! Together, we are growing closer to God and closer to each other every single day. Suddenly, life changed!

It’s amazing how God can suddenly change everything! We can be going through the motions in our everyday lives, feeling like our story is almost finished, when God shows up and shows out, completely changing everything. He is the Author of our story, and when we may think it’s almost over, it’s just beginning.

The Bible gives us insight into this. Isaiah 55:8-9 reminds us that our ways and thoughts are not the same as God’s, so we can’t always anticipate what He is going to do. 2 Peter 3:8 further shows us that God doesn’t view time the same way that we do, so He can suddenly appear in our lives in ways that we don’t expect. Remember, He knows the plans He has for us (Jeremiah 29:11).

God is able to do far more than we can imagine. When we think we are stuck in a situation, God can suddenly change everything. We see this in the life of Abraham. God called Abraham out of his home in Ur and promised him a great nation. Abraham didn’t know what to expect, and he faced many trials and tests on his journey. God ultimately changed his story for the better, blessing him with a son at a ripe old age, and crowning Abraham the father of many nations!

We also see this in the life of Joseph. Joseph endured a lot of hardship and was sold into slavery but God was with him the whole way. When Joseph’s story seemed to be almost over, God suddenly changed everything, making him a great dream interpreter, and second-in-command in Egypt, eventually restoring his relationship with his family.

God is always working to change our stories for the better. We may go through tough times and feel like our stories are almost over, but remember that God is the author of our stories. When we think the story is over, it is just beginning. He knows the plans He has for us, and He can suddenly change everything. ©Rita Larson 6/21/2023
