"Are You A Storm Carrier?"

We all go through storms in life, but sometimes we are faced with storms that are deeper and more powerful than what we can handle on our own. One of the most difficult storms that many of us have had to face is that of abusive relationships from our past. It can be hard to overcome the hurt and pain we’ve experienced, and it can be hard to move on and find peace. Our past, especially if it has been traumatic, can be overwhelming and can be a source of great pain and distress. It can be difficult to navigate these storms, and it can be easy to become a storm carrier - allowing our past experiences to continue to have a negative impact on us far beyond the initial incident.

But there is hope! We can look to Jesus, the One who is our anchor in the storm. He can heal us from our past, but we must give it to Him to handle. When we put our trust in Him, He can see us through any storm.

The Bible speaks of storms in many places. In Matthew 8:23-27, we see Jesus calming the storm that was raging on the sea. In this passage, Jesus speaks to the wind and waves: “Peace, be still!” This is a powerful reminder that through Jesus, we have authority over every storm we face.

Psalm 62:6-7 says: “He only is my rock and my salvation: He is my defense; I shall not be moved. In God is my salvation and my glory: the rock of my strength, and my refuge, is in God.” God is always a safe haven. No matter what we may be facing or have been through, we can turn to God, and He will give us the strength we need to overcome any obstacle.

Psalms 107:29-30 says, “He made the storm be still, and the waves of the sea were hushed. Then they were glad that the waters were quiet, and he brought them to their desired haven.” This is a beautiful reminder that Jesus can bring us out of the storms of life into a place of peace and rest.

Isaiah 43:2 says: “When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee.” Here, we see that no matter what storm we face, Jesus is with us and will protect us. We can go through any storm, walk through any fire the enemy throws at us, and come out unscathed.

Finally, we can look to Hebrews 6:19, which says, “We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure.” Jesus is our anchor in the storm, and we can cling to Him in faith, knowing He we can always cling to Him when life is raging around us.

If you are facing a storm in life - whether it be a storm of abuse from your past or any other storm - remember that Jesus is your anchor and your refuge. He can heal you from the past and give you the strength and courage to face any storm that comes your way. He will never leave you or forsake you, so trust in Him and know that He is with you.

So, let us not be storm carriers but instead be those who look to Jesus and trust Him to lead us through our storms. When we put our trust in Him, He can give us peace and make the storm dissipate! He is our Anchor in the storm, and He has the power to calm the raging seas of life. ©Rita Larson 8/3/2023
