Behind Someone Else's Eyes

Updated: Mar 22, 2023

You never know what is going on behind someone else's eyes. That waitress that was rude may have been up all night with a sick child. That person that just flew by you and cut you off, may have just found out a loved one was in a serious car accident. Your spouse that is short and snappy with you, may not be feeling well or be worried about something. That parent that is overprotective may have had some tragedies in their past that they are trying to protect you from. That person at work that always seems to break down crying may be in an abusive relationship at home. Again, you never know what is going on behind someone else's eyes!

The Bible teaches us that it is important to show grace and mercy to each other and not be judgmental. This is a timeless lesson, as we never know what someone else may be going through. We need to remember that we don’t know the struggles that someone else may be facing, so we shouldn’t judge them based on our own experiences.

The Bible provides us with a number of examples that illustrate how we should be treating one another. In Matthew 7:1-2, Jesus says “Judge not, that ye be not judged. For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again.” This verse teaches us that we

should not pass judgment on others, as we will be judged on the same measure.

Another example of this is found in Romans 12:15-16, which says “Rejoice with them that do rejoice and weep with them that weep. Be of the same mind one toward another. Mind not high things, but condescend to men of low estate. Be not wise in your own conceits.” This verse is encouraging us to show compassion to those who are going through difficult times, rather than judging them.

Finally, the bible also provides us with examples of redemption. In 2 Corinthians 5:17-18, it says “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation.” This verse is a reminder that no matter what someone has done, they can still find redemption in Christ.

In conclusion, The Bible teaches us that we should show grace and mercy to one another and not pass judgment. We should remember that we don’t know the struggles that someone else may be facing. Be kind and show compassion and understanding. Show them the same love, the same grace, and mercy, that our Father has shown us! For only God knows what is really going on behind someone else's eyes! ©Rita Larson 3/18/2023
