"Broken Fragments"

ree

No matter what our past may look like, God has the power to take the broken fragments of our lives and reshape them into something beautiful. We see this exemplified in the story of Jesus' feeding of the five thousand when the disciples gathered twelve baskets of food from the leftovers. John 6:12–13 says, “Gather up the fragments that remain, that nothing be lost. Therefore they gathered them together, and filled twelve baskets with the fragments of the five barley loaves, which remained over and above unto them that had eaten.” The disciples were able to collect far more than what was originally offered, demonstrating the incredible power of God to take what may seem meager and unimportant and make something extraordinary.

We can see this same power reflected in our own lives when we submit ourselves to the Lord's will. When we offer our lives to God, allowing Him to refine us like clay, water us with His Word, and reshape us through His Holy Spirit, we can be transformed from fragmented to whole. As Romans 12:2 says, “And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God is.” We have the ability to be transformed into the very image of Christ so that His beauty and love can be reflected in us.

Ephesians 2:10 tells us that we are “created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.” We have been given a purpose, and it is up to us to fulfill it. We must be willing to be shaped and molded by God's hands, allowing Him to transform us into a work of art. When we turn to God and allow Him to take our brokenness and make us whole, we can find true peace and joy in our lives.

Isaiah 64:8 says, “But now, O Lord, thou art our father; we are the clay, and thou our potter; and we all are the work of thy hand.” We are the clay, and God is the potter. He is the one who can take the fragmented pieces of our lives and reshape them into something beautiful.

Only God can take all of our broken pieces and make us whole. He is the only one who can transform us from broken and fragmented to being a work of art. All we have to do is open our hearts and allow God to work in our lives. As Ezekiel 36:26-27 says, “A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh. And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them.”

As 2 Corinthians 5:17 says, “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.” When we surrender ourselves to God, we become new creatures. We can be freed from the bondage of our past and be given a new life in Christ. We can trust that God can take our brokenness and make us whole. He can take our fragmented lives and reshape them into something beautiful! ©Rita Larson 12/29/2023
