"Christlikeness"

ree

Brian and I had a recent conversation regarding being created in the image of Christ after he listened to a podcast recently. The conversation really stuck with me and I have found myself more focused on what it means to be the image of Christ. If we are to be like Jesus, then what does that look like? How do we take on the character of God and be transformed into the image of Christ?

Let’s start with Genesis 1:26, which states, “And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.” This passage clearly tells us that we are created to take on the nature of God, and to reflect His character as seen in Jesus. Colossians 1:5 says, “For the hope which is laid up for you in heaven, whereof ye heard before in the word of the truth of the gospel.” This verse tells us that our ultimate goal should be to be transformed into the image of Christ.

But how can we do this? John 13:15 offers some insight, “For I have given you an example, that ye should do as I have done to you.” Jesus showed us the way by washing the feet of his disciples. He was demonstrating how we should be humble and serve one another. Similarly, 1 Peter 2:21 says, “For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps.” We are called to follow in the footsteps of Jesus and to manifest the same fruit of the Spirit.

So, the question is, how well do we embody the character of Christ in our lives? Are we living according to the example Jesus set for us? Are we responding to every situation in the same way Jesus would have? These are important questions to reflect on as we strive to become more like Jesus in all aspects of our lives.

We are called to live a life of holiness and righteousness, to be a light in this dark world. We are called to be a reflection of God’s love, mercy, and grace. We are called to show the same compassion and care for others that Jesus did. and still does for us. We are called to be a living example of the character of God.

At the end of the day, becoming more like Jesus is an ongoing process. We are all on a journey of transformation, and it takes time and dedication to become more Christlike. The journey of transformation may seem daunting, but it is worth it. As we take on the character of God and become more Christlike, we will experience the joy and peace that only comes from following Him.
