Have you ever been plugging along, and everything was going great and all of a sudden, you get thrown a curve ball and your week just takes a sudden turn? That has been my week, and if I am honest, I have to say that I am a little annoyed and frustrated. It is not always easy to understand why things happen and I have had to remind myself to have patience. Curve balls are simply opportunities to to grow and become a better version of you!

Throughout our lives, we often find ourselves in difficult situations or faced with seemingly impossible challenges. These moments present us with unique opportunities to develop and grow in patience. It is during these times that we must learn to submit to God's providential will and trust in His plan for our lives. The Bible teaches us that patience is not just about waiting for things to happen, but it is also about how we respond to challenges that come our way. James 1:3-4 states, "Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience. But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing." Through trials, our faith is tested, and patience is developed.

When we encounter difficult people or situations, it can be tempting to react with frustration or anger. However, these moments are opportunities for us to show patience and extend grace and mercy. Ephesians 4:2, says, "With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love." We need to interact with one another in love, displaying patience and understanding towards others. It is through these interactions that we can minister and encourage each other. We can be a reflection of God's love and grace in the lives of those around us.
Patience is not just about waiting for something to happen; it is also about trusting in God's promises. Throughout the Bible, we see countless examples of individuals who had to wait patiently for God's timing. Abraham waited many years for the fulfillment of God's promise of a son. Noah waited patiently as he built the ark, trusting in God's plan for the flood. In Hebrews 6:15, it says, "And so, after he had patiently endured, he obtained the promise."

In addition to trusting in God's promises, we must also rely on His grace and mercy as we navigate through life's challenges. Patience requires us to extend grace and mercy to ourselves and others. In Colossians 3:12-13, it states, "Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering; Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye." As followers of Christ, we are called to show mercy and forgiveness towards others just as Christ has shown mercy and forgiveness towards us.
When faced with difficult situations, we have the opportunity to grow in patience and submit to God's providential will. By relying on our faith in God's promises and extending grace and mercy to others, we can cultivate patience in our lives. Curve balls are always going to come our way! We just need to be patient and swing the bat! We already know how the game ends! We win! ©Rita Larson 9/3/2023
