"Dance Like Nobody is Watching!"

I woke up this morning, grabbed my phone and, for whatever reason, started looking back at some journaling I had done years ago. I strolled down memory lane back to the time that I first met my husband, Brian. I read about our first date, the first time he shared that he loved me, when we started talking about our beliefs and getting married, when he proposed, and so on. It brought me so much joy! That is what God wants for us. He wants us to be happy! He wants us to not only experience joy but to express our joy! Rejoice!

In fact God instructs us to be filled with joy and to rejoice in all circumstances. In Acts 16:25-26, we see an incredible example of this. Paul and Silas were still rejoicing and praising God in the midst of their suffering. Despite the fact that they had been beaten and shackled, Paul and Silas still found joy in praising God. It was through this choice to rejoice that God released power to shake the very foundations of the prison, and the doors were opened. This is a prime example of the power of rejoicing!

In Philippians 4:4, we are commanded to “Rejoice in the Lord always, and again I say rejoice.” This verse reminds us of the importance of rejoicing no matter our circumstances. We are to be continually filled with joy, and to let it out and rejoice! Even when we are in the midst of a storm, we can find a reason to rejoice! There are many different ways to do this. We can sing and dance, praising our Father. We can also exhibit joy by simply smiling, laughing, and enjoying ourselves!

John 14:16-17 “And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you and shall be in you”. Because the Spirit dwells within us, so does joy. Joy is a fruit of the Spirit! We have to make the choice to let it out and rejoice! This promise reminds us that no matter what we are facing, God is always with us and is our source of joy!

Psalm 22:3, "But thou art holy, O thou that inhabitest the praises of Israel” When we praise God, God is present! The Holy Spirit is within us, inhabiting our praises! This verse reminds us that when we are praising God and rejoicing in His name, the enemy flees. Light and dark do not mix! When we praise Him, making a joyful noise, change happens! Depression leaves! Fear is cast out! Anger dissolves! Circumstances turn around! Hallelujah!

So what are you waiting for? We already have joy within us. We have the Holy Spirit on the inside! We can choose to keep our joy buried and hidden, or we can choose to let it out and rejoice. Let’s choose to release our joy and let it overflow into our lives and the lives of those around us. When we do this, we will experience the awesome power of God that is released when we rejoice in Him! Shout for joy! Dance like nobody is watching! Rejoice!! ©Rita Larson 5/24/2023
