As Christians, we know that Jesus is the only way to eliminate our sins and receive forgiveness. He is the one who paid for our sins, and without Him, we would be lost in our guilt and shame. We don’t have to try to cover our sins, hide them, or run from them. Trying to cover our sins ourselves does not work. Tucking them away does not work. There is only one way to deal with and overcome sin, and that is through the Blood of Jesus Christ.

We can look to the example of David and his repentance in Psalm 32. After his sin of adultery and murder, David eventually admitted to God that he had sinned and asked for forgiveness. He said, “I acknowledge my sin unto thee, and mine iniquity have I not hid. I said, I will confess my transgressions unto the Lord; and thou forgavest the iniquity of my sin. Selah” (verse 5). David didn’t try to blame someone else for his sin; instead, he called it what it was and dealt with it in a straightforward way.
But it isn’t just David’s story that illustrates this truth. In Isaiah 43:25, we read, “I, even I, am he who blots out your transgressions, for my own sake, and remembers your sins no more.” Here, God is reminding us that He is willing to forgive us for our sins, regardless of the type of sin. He doesn't SOME of your transgressions. Sin is not categorized based on severity. No matter how big or how small the sin is, sin is sin. We all sin and we all can be forgiven.

We can also look to Isaiah 1:18, which says, “Come now, and let us reason together, saith the Lord: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.” This verse is a beautiful reminder that no matter how deep our sins may be, Jesus can wash them away and make us clean. When we invite Jesus into our hearts and ask for forgiveness, we become justified meaning "Just as if I'd" never sinned. Our sins are no more! We are cleansed by the blood of the Lamb!
The same is true for the passage in Romans 5:8, which says, “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” Here, we learn that Jesus paid the ultimate price for our sins. He died so that we could be free from the burden of our sins and find forgiveness.

Finally, there is 1 John 1:9, which says, “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”. This verse tells us that all we have to do is confess our sins and ask for forgiveness, and God will be faithful to forgive us.
These scriptures show us that Jesus is the only way to eliminate our sins and achieve forgiveness. We must be willing to turn away from our sin and acknowledge it for what it is. Then, we can come to Jesus with an open heart and receive His forgiveness. As we do this, we will experience true freedom from our sin and guilt.

In our lives, this means that we should be open to confessing our sins and turning to Jesus for forgiveness. We should not try to hide or cover our sins but rather acknowledge them and seek God’s forgiveness. This is the only way to deal with it! This will allow us to be forgiven, cleansed, transformed, and renewed so that we can experience the true freedom that can only be obtained through the blood of Jesus Christ! ©Rita Larson 7/29/2023
