"Get Dressed, Time to Roll!"

As I wake up this morning, I am so thankful that His mercies are new every morning. Work has been a little challenging the past few weeks and yesterday left me feeling a little bruised. So, as I wake up this morning, our Heavenly Father has reminded me to "Suit Up" for the day. I am also reminded that when we go into battle, we never go into battle alone. Remember, He is always by our side, working all things for good!

Starting our day with the right attitude and perspective is essential for living a life that honors God. Putting on the full armor of God each morning is a powerful way to ensure that we stay rooted in our faith and are obedient to God's commands. We are reminded of this in Ephesians 6:14-17, where Paul encourages us to put on the belt of truth, the breastplate of righteousness, the shield of faith, the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit.

Just like a firefighter needs to suit up with their protective gear before entering a burning building, we must put on the armor of God before entering the battlefield of life. The armor of God is designed to protect us from spiritual attacks and to give us the strength to persevere in our faith no matter what we face. The belt of truth is our reminder that God’s Word is the truth and it is the foundation of our faith. The breastplate of righteousness is our reminder of God’s righteousness and His love for us. The shield of faith is our reminder to have faith in God and trust that He will keep us safe. The helmet of salvation is a reminder of our identity in Christ and His gift of eternal life. And finally, the gospel of peace is our reminder to always proclaim the good news of Jesus Christ and to bring peace to the world.

We know that we are going to have battles to fight, or God would not have equipped us with the armor needed to fight the battle. Let’s look at some other scriptures that will help us be prepared for the day and stand firm in the power of the Lord:

Ephesians 6:10-11 states: “Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. Put on the whole armor of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.” In this scripture, Paul is reminding us to put on the full armor of God and stand firm against the schemes of the enemy.

Romans 8:37 says: “Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.” This scripture reminds us that no matter what the enemy throws our way, we are conquerors in Christ. The battle was already fought and won! We are victorious in Christ and we can go into battle knowing how the story ends. We win!

Romans 12:2 states: “And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.” This scripture reminds us that we must renew our minds and not conform to the ways of the world. We must put on the full armor of God and focus on the will of God.

2 Corinthians 10:4-5 says: “For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds; Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ.” In this scripture, Paul is reminding us that our weapons should not be carnal but mighty through God. We must put on the full armor of God and bring every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ.

Finally, Colossians 3:12-15 states: “Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering; Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye. And above all these things put on charity, which is the bond of perfectness. And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful."

The armor of God is a necessary part of our spiritual life and we must put it on each day to protect us from the attacks of the enemy. By putting on the full armor of God each morning, we are reminded of God’s grace and protection and that He is with us in the battles of life. So, let us get up and get dressed for the day and put on the full armor of God and go forward in faith, trusting that God will see us through whatever we face.

Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for the armor of protection that you have placed upon us. Help us to remember to put on the full armor of God each morning. Help us to stand firm in our faith and to be a light to those around us. Guide us through our day and help us to honor you in all that we do. We ask this in Jesus' name, Amen. ©Rita Larson 7/11/2023
