"Grab Your Raincoat!"

Woman and Dog wearing Raincoat
Grab Your Raincoat

We have had so much rain the past few days with Tropical Storm Ophelia moving through our area. Last night, in the midst of very heavy rain, Brian decided he should check the security on our barn to make sure the doors were secure. It was so windy, that an umbrella would have never been helpful, so he grabbed his raincoat and took off outside. With his raincoat on, he was confident that it would at least give him some protection from the rain. Just as easily as Brian grabbed his raincoat for protection, we can call upon our Heavenly Father in any storm we are facing for protection. We often forget that God is our Protector!

Pray and Cry out to God
Pray For a hedge of protection

As believers, one of the tools that we have been given is the power of prayer to provide us with a “hedge of protection.” This is not just a figurative phrase, but a promise from God that He will protect us from harm. In Psalm 91:1–2 it says, “He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.” As we pray to the Father and seek refuge in the Lord, He will provide us with a strong hedge of protection.

The Lord has also promised us in Deuteronomy 28:7, “The Lord shall cause thine enemies that rise up against thee to be smitten before thy face: they shall come out against thee one way, and flee before thee seven ways.” This promise reveals God’s faithfulness to protect us from our enemies. No matter how great the threats may be, if we put our trust in Him, He will cause our enemies to flee before us.

Jesus Paid It All!
The Price Is Already Paid!

God has given us authority over all spiritual forces of evil. In Luke 10:19 it says, “Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.” Through the blood of Jesus Christ, we have been given authority over the things of this world, including the enemy. We often forget that we have this authority and can call upon the angels of God to protect us and are loved ones from any harm. Psalm 91:11, “For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways.” We can trust that when we pray and commission the angels to stand guard around us, He will send angels to protect us!

In Ephesians 6:12-13, “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.” Here Paul reminds us of the spiritual realm that we are engaged in, and how important it is to put on the armor of God in order to protect ourselves from the enemy’s schemes and attacks.

God will do what He said He will do!
Stand In Faith, God's Promises are Yes and Amen!

Therefore, as believers, we can have faith that God is our refuge, our Protector in the midst of any storms. We can have confidence that when we can call upon God, we will see the manifest power of prayer providing us with a “hedge of protection” around us and our families. Through the blood of Jesus, we have been given the authority to call upon angels to protect us. There is nothing that the enemy can throw at us that God cannot protect us from. Thank you for your protective covering!

Lord, we thank You for being our Protector. We thank You for your protective covering that we can access just as easily as slipping on a raincoat. Help us to keep in remembrance the tools that you have given us to use for our protection. Thank you for giving us the Power of the Holy Spirit living on the inside of us and authority through the blood of Jesus Christ. We ask that You continue to provide us and those around us with a “hedge of protection." By the authority you have given us, we commission angels to guard and protect us and our loved ones from all harm. We do this knowing that the enemy has been defeated, the battle is won, and through your Blood, we are victorious! In Jesus’ name, Amen! ©Rita Larson 9/23/2023
