"How Much Does It Take?!"

A friend sent me a text message this morning, reminding me of having the faith of a mustard seed. Did you know there are different varieties of mustard, ranging in color and heights? Isn't that amazing considering each variety starts with one mustard seed and they are so tiny? In Matthew 17:20, Jesus tells His disciples, "If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you." This statement by Jesus shows that even the tiniest amount of faith can have a tremendous impact. It is truly amazing to think that a small mustard seed can grow into something so strong! This remarkable growth demonstrates the potential for our faith to grow and become strong and mighty.
When we read Jesus's words about faith, it becomes clear that He is not asking for our faith to be great or extraordinary. Instead, He encourages us to take the faith that we already have and plant it in Him. Just as a mustard seed is planted in the ground, when we plant our faith in Jesus, we can watch it grow and flourish. The more we rely on Him and take Him at His word, the stronger and more powerful our faith becomes.
As a mustard seed grows into something strong and tall, our faith can grow and become bigger than we ever thought possible. It may start small, but as we nurture it through prayer, studying the scriptures, and seeking a deeper relationship with God, our faith can reach new heights. We can overcome obstacles that seem insurmountable and accomplish things that we once thought were impossible. By trusting in Jesus and allowing Him to work in our lives, our faith becomes a force that can move mountains.
The imagery of the mustard seed serves as a powerful reminder that size does not determine strength. It is not about having the biggest or most impressive faith, but rather about having a genuine and unwavering trust in God. Just as the mustard seed grows into something beautiful and mighty, our faith can grow and expand beyond our wildest dreams. We may start with just a tiny amount of faith, but when we plant it in Jesus and allow Him to nurture it, our faith can become strong!
Remember, the faith of a mustard seed is a remarkable example of how something small can grow into something great. How much faith does it take? Jesus encourages us to take the faith that we have, no matter how small it may seem, and plant it in Him. With Him, all things are possible! Let's trust in Jesus and watch as our faith reaches new heights! With our faith in Jesus, we are able to accomplish incredible things! ©Rita Larson 10/05/2023
