As the end of our vacation is approaching, the one thing I must say about our trip to Belize, is that literally everyone we came across was so kind. They even have homemade signs up reminding people to be kind to one another. The culture is laid back and friendly. Everyone is always willing to help and smiling when you greet them. The statement, "A little kindness goes a long way" is so true. Kindness changes everything!

We should all strive to live a life of kindness. Kindness is a cornerstone of our faith, and it's something that we should be actively working to cultivate in our lives. Colossians 3:12-13 states, "Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering; Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye." This passage tells us that we should be full of mercy, kindness, humility, and patience with one another.
But how can we walk in kindness? First, it's important to remember that kindness is not a feeling, it's a choice. We may not always feel kind, but we can choose to act in kindness nonetheless. We can offer encouraging words, spend time listening to someone, or give of our resources to help another. Romans 12:10 says, "Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another." This scripture reminds us to be kind to each other, to honor each other, and to show brotherly love.

Finally, we can also look to Jesus' example of kindness and love. In Matthew 5:44, Jesus says, "But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you." Jesus' words remind us that kindness is not limited to those who are easy to love. We must be willing to extend kindness to those who don't deserve it.
At the end of the day, kindness is a choice. We can choose to embody the kindness that God has shown us and extend it to others. We can choose to be patient, humble, and merciful. We can choose to love our enemies and pray for those who have wronged us. Choose Kindness! Every day we need to put on kindness, and share it with everyone around us! ©Rita Larson 6/15/2023
