"Leave The Light On"

It is always a fun game when I wake up in the middle of the night when I am traveling. I sleep with all of the lights out, so it is pitch black. When I need to go to the bathroom, it is interesting waking up but still being half asleep and trying to remember where the bathroom is! I get up stumbling in the dark, arms outstretched, feeling the walls to guide me. The smallest amount of light would give me enough illumination to see, yet I choose not to turn on the light. This morning, I began to ponder how sometimes we do the same thing with our life. We are stumbling through in the darkness when we all have a source of light available to us, all of the time.

God’s light brings beauty and clarity to our lives. He went to the extreme when we were created to make sure we could see! He placed three types of tiny cones in our eyes: blue, green and red. The human eye has approximately 4,500,000 of these tiny little cones in retina, alone (according to ncbi). They interact with the presence of light to cause us to see the colors of the rainbow all around us. He desires for us to not only see the beauty of His creation but to vividly see colors and shades so that we can see the beaty of all of His creations!

Have you ever stopped to consider the power of light? In the Gospel of John, Jesus is referred to as the Light of the World. That’s because He is the perfect example of God’s love and truth, and He illuminates the path of righteousness. God desires for us to be exposed to His light so that we can see the beauty of His creation. He doesn’t want us to stumble around in the darkness, but to be guided by the light of Jesus. His light enables us to recognize the truth of who God is and to be unafraid when darkness tries to consume us. God’s light has the power to cut through any darkness we face.
The Bible tells us that “God is light, and in Him is no darkness at all” (1 John 1:5). This is an incredible truth that brings comfort and hope to all who believe in Jesus. In a world filled with darkness and uncertainty, the light of God is like a beacon of hope that shines through the night.
John 1:1-5 says, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” This scripture paints a beautiful picture of how Jesus, the Word made flesh, is the light of the world. He is the one who dispels the darkness and brings clarity to our lives. He is the one who exposes the truth and brings hope to those who are lost in the darkness. He is the one who brings clarity to our lives and shows us the way to God.

But how do we let His light shine in our lives? How do we make sure that the darkness has not overcome it? To do this, we must stay close to Jesus and seek His guidance. We must open our hearts and minds to Him and let Him show us the way. We must also be willing to take action. Jesus’s light is not just a passive source of truth. It is a powerful force that can transform our lives. We must be willing to act on the truth that He reveals to us and to embrace His teachings. Finally, we must continue to learn and grow in our understanding of God’s Word. We must be willing to ask questions and to search for answers. We must be willing to take risks and to pursue a deeper relationship with Him.

So, let’s take a moment to reflect on our lives. Where do we find ourselves in relation to God’s light? Are we allowing His light to guide us and bring clarity to our lives? Are we taking action on the truth that He reveals? Are we growing in our understanding of Him? It’s time to let God’s light shine in our lives. It’s time to seek His guidance and to let Him show us the way. It’s time to take action and to pursue a deeper relationship with Him. It’s time to ask questions and to search for answers. It’s time to let God’s light bring clarity and truth to our lives. It's time to leave the light on! ©Rita Larson 5/16/2023
