Have you ever wondered what it would be like to have a personal and intimate relationship with Jesus? You may have heard stories of other believers who have experienced an incredible, life-changing closeness to the Lord, but you may not know how to get there yourself.

As believers, we all have the opportunity to experience a personal, intimate relationship with Jesus through the power of the Holy Spirit. Ephesians 3:14-19 says that we can be “rooted and established in love” and that we can “grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ.” When we take the time to get to know Jesus and spend time in His presence, we will be able to experience this incredible love and intimacy for ourselves.
A great way to understand how to develop a personal and intimate relationship with Jesus is to look at the analogy of a husband’s love for his bride. Just as a husband loves his bride with all his heart and soul, Jesus loves us with unconditional and unfailing love. Just as a husband and wife build their relationship through communication and time spent together, we can build our relationship with Jesus in the same way. We can talk to Him in prayer, listen to Him in His Word, and spend time in His presence.

Husband desire to be romantically involved with their bride. Likewise, Jesus desires to be intimately involved with us. He desires to take us on a journey of discovery and to fill our hearts with His love. He desires to be our Guide, our Comforter, and our Protector. He desires to be our Refuge in times of trouble and our Strength in times of weakness. He desires to be our Peace when we’re troubled and our Joy when we’re sorrowful. In short, He desires to be our everything.
The Bible tells us that Jesus is the Bridegroom and we are His Bride (Ephesians 5:25-33 KJV). He desires to have an intimate relationship with us and to be our Lord and Master. He desires to be the One who fills our hearts and minds with His love and His presence. He desires to be the One who guides us and comforts us in times of difficulty. He desires to be the One who leads us into a deeper understanding of His love and a closer relationship with Him.

Romans 8:28 says that “all things work together for good to those who love God,” and this is certainly true when it comes to developing an intimate relationship with Jesus. When we make it a priority to seek Him and spend time in His presence, He will draw us closer to Him and reveal Himself to us in ways we could never imagine. He will become our best Friend, our Comforter, and our Lover of our souls.
Psalm 139:7-12 reminds us that “where can I go from Your Spirit? Or where can I flee from Your presence? If I ascend into heaven, You are there; If I make my bed in hell, behold, You are there. If I take the wings of the morning, And dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, Even there Your hand shall lead me, And Your right hand shall hold me. If I say, “Surely the darkness shall fall on me,” Even the night shall be light about me; Indeed, the darkness shall not hide from You, But the night shines as the day; The darkness and the light are both alike to You.

This scripture reminds us of God's omnipresence. We can never truly flee from God’s presence, and we can always find Him no matter what we are facing. We can trust that His hand will lead us, His right hand will hold us, and that He will never leave us. No matter how distant we may feel from Him, He is always there, waiting for us to turn to Him.
As believers, we can have a personal and intimate relationship with Jesus. We can build a relationship with Him through prayer, communication, and time spent in His presence. We can trust Him to lead us and hold us and to always be there for us no matter what we are facing. All we have to do is take the time to find Him and experience the incredible love and intimacy that He has for us. ©Rita Larson 10/31/2023
