Marriage is a beautiful union that brings together two individuals who are unique in their own ways. It is a bond that is meant to be cherished and celebrated. God, in his infinite wisdom, created each of us with our own set of qualities and characteristics. This includes our spouse. When we understand and appreciate this, we can truly cherish our spouse and honor the Creator who designed them.

Cherishing our spouse goes beyond just loving them. It involves recognizing and valuing the qualities that make them who they are. Each of us has been intricately crafted by God, and when we take the time to appreciate the unique characteristics of our spouse, we can experience a deeper level of love and connection. It is in these moments of cherishing that we honor not only our spouse but also the Creator who made them.
Cherishing our spouses is an act of obedience to the Lord, and it is also a great blessing when we begin to see our spouse as God sees him or her. After all, the Lord cherishes us, each and every one, and knows our worth. He tells us that we are “fearfully and wonderfully made” (Psalm 139:14) and that we are “His treasured possession” (Exodus 19:5). He also declares that we are “His glorious inheritance” (Ephesians 1:18) and “precious and honored in His eyes” (Isaiah 43:4). When we recognize the Lord's view of our spouses and treat them accordingly, we are participating in His love.

Marriage is a journey that requires effort, commitment, and sacrifice. It is through this commitment that we can truly love and honor our spouse. Love is not just a feeling but a choice we make every day. When we choose to love our spouse, flaws, and all, we are embracing the unique design that God has given them. It is in this love that we can truly honor our spouse and the Creator who brought us together.
As we navigate the ups and downs of married life, let us remember that God created each of us with a purpose. He designed us to be different from one another, including our spouse. Instead of trying to change or mold our spouse into someone they are not, let us cherish and embrace their uniqueness. In doing so, we not only love and honor our spouse but also show gratitude to the Creator who made them just for us. Let us celebrate the beautiful diversity in marriage and find joy in the journey of cherishing our spouse and honoring our Creator. Thank you, Lord, for this wondrous gift of the perfect companion you have chosen for me! ©Rita Larson 12/28/2023
