"Miracle Working Power!"

ree

The story of the Widow of Nain is a powerful example of the miracle working power of God. In Luke 7:11-17, we see Jesus’ compassion and divine power as He performs a miracle by raising a widow’s only son from the dead. The deceased young man is the only son of a woman who has already lost her husband, leaving her with immense grief and financial instability. Jesus, moved by the widow’s sorrow, approached her and restored her son to life, not only bringing joy back to her life but also demonstrating His divine authority over death itself. Through this encounter, we witness the immense empathy that Jesus had for the marginalized and the suffering. We see Him do a work of restoration in a desperate situation. Throughout His earthly journey, we actively see Him searching out those in need using His miracle-working power and providing them with hope.

The miracle of the Widow of Nain teaches us that hope is always available even when we cannot see a way out. Psalm 34:18 tells us “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” This verse reminds us that when life is hard, God is still close by and ready to provide us with comfort and hope. We serve a God of restoration!

In addition, Romans 15:13 encourages us to “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” This verse reminds us that hope is a gift from God, and it is available to each of us in abundance. Even when we are blinded by our circumstances, the Word of God can bring us hope and joy, even in our darkest moments.

Finally, Hebrews 10:23 reminds us to “Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful.” Here, we are again reminded that no matter how bleak things may seem, we can always cling to God’s promises of hope. He is faithful and He will never leave us nor forsake us! Rita Larson 7/19/2023
