It is open enrollment season, that time of year at work when we need to review our benefits. During open enrollment, we have the opportunity to review our current elections and make any necessary changes. We can increase our coverages and waive some of the coverages after we weigh out the cost versus the benefits. Benefits are something we get as a perk for working but still end up having to pay for.

Have you ever thought about the benefits of being a part of God's family? Through Jesus, we can become a part of God's family and receive all the blessings that come with it. In John 10:28, Jesus says, "And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand." Jesus is offering us the gift of eternal life and the assurance that we will never be taken away from Him. This is a powerful promise that can gives us security and comfort in an ever-changing world.

The Bible speaks of the many benefits we receive when we become born again and covered by the blood of Jesus. Romans 6:23 says, “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” We are offered the gift of life for eternity with Jesus. This is not something that can be taken away or lost. We can be certain that our salvation is secure in the hands of Jesus.
In addition, John 3:16 says, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” This verse is the foundation of our Christian faith because of its significance. God gave us the opportunity to receive eternal life through faith in Jesus. By simply believing in Jesus and asking Him into our heart, we get all of the benefits associated with our salvation.
The Bible also speaks of the benefits of being part of God's family. Romans 8:17 says, “And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.” As believers, we are heirs of God and joint-heirs with Jesus. This means that we have access to the same blessings and promises that Jesus received. We are part of His family and can enjoy the same privileges.

Romans 10:9-10: “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.” This scripture reminds us that the only way to be saved is to accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior and believe in His resurrection. We must confess our sins and repent and believe in our heart that God will forgive us and grant us salvation.
Another scripture is found in 1 John 5:11-12, which says, “And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.” This scripture reminds us that only those who have accepted Jesus as their Lord and Savior have eternal life.

I am reminded of the quote by Corrie Ten Boom who once said, “When we accept Jesus, we are no longer orphans. We are children of God, with a spiritual family that will never die.” This quote powerfully reminds us of the incredible benefits of salvation: that we have a loving and supportive family in Christ that will never abandon us. We no longer need to feel lost or alone.
The great Christian leader C.S. Lewis once said, “The Son of God became a man to enable men to become the sons of God.” This quote speaks to the power of becoming part of God's family and reminds us that God's Master Plan was the sacrifice of His son, so that we could be brought into His family.
John 10:28 is a powerful reminder of the benefits of salvation. Now is the time. It is open enrollment. When we become born again and accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior, we are given the promise of eternal life and security in His hand. Not only are we forgiven of our sins, but we are also given the hope of eternal life with God in Heaven. We also have God’s protection, strength, and guidance in times of need, and we become part of a loving community of believers. We are no longer orphans, but children of God, with a spiritual family that will never die. Are you ready to sign up? Don't let your open enrollment season pass! ©Rita Larson 9/3/2023
