Psalm 105:1-7 encourages us to remember all the wonderful things that God has done. He calls for us to “give thanks unto the Lord” and to “call upon His name” (Psalm 105:1). We are to remember the Lord’s mighty works, His marvelous acts, and the judgments of His mouth (v.5). We should be thankful for the Lord’s great provision and salvation, and His lovingkindness, which endures forever (v.3-4).

We read about 10 lepers in Luke 17:11-19 and this is a great reminder to be thankful. All 10 lepers were healed of their affliction, but only one returned to give thanks. Jesus responded by saying, “Were there not ten cleansed? but where are the nine? There are not found that returned to give glory to God, save this stranger.” Even in times of hardship and difficulty, we should still be thankful for the blessings we have. When we witness the miracle-working power of God in our lives, we need to give glory to God with thanksgiving!
As Christians, we should heed the call to exhibit thankfulness and remember God’s past mercies with intention. We should take time to pause and remember all that the Lord has done for us and be in awe of His power and His grace. As Romans 8:32 says, “He that spared not His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things?”. Here, we are reminded of how much God loves us and how He has given us His only son, Jesus Christ, as a sacrifice for our sins. This is a reminder of the incredible power of God’s love and mercy, which are worthy of all our thanks and praise.

In addition to remembering the great things that the Lord has done, we should also be thankful for His ongoing provision and blessings. In Psalm 34:10, we are told to “taste and see that the Lord is good”. This reminds us that the Lord provides for us in all areas of our lives, and that we can trust Him to provide for us in our time of need. We can also be thankful for the Holy Spirit, who works in us to help us grow and become more like Jesus. As Romans 8:26-27 says, “Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. And He that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because He maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God.” Here, we are reminded of the power of the Holy Spirit in our lives, and of the comfort and guidance He provides us.

As Ephesians 2:8-9 says, “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.” Here, we are reminded that our salvation is a gift from God!. We should also be thankful for the blessings of God, and for all the good things He has given us. As James 1:17 says, “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.” This reminds us that God is the source of all good things in our lives! We should be grateful for all the blessings He has bestowed upon us.
Live a life of thankfulness and gratitude to God for all He has done. As the famous Christian author C.S. Lewis wrote, “We ought to give thanks for all fortune: if it is good, because it is good, if bad, because it works in us patience, humility and the contempt of this world and the hope of our eternal country.” This call to be thankful for both the good and the bad in our lives is a reminder to be ever-mindful of the blessings of God in our lives. In the busyness of life, don't forget to remember what is important and those things to be thankful for! Thank you, Jesus!! ©Rita Larson 8/29/2023
