"Speak Life"

I have been listening to TobyMac today, with his song "Speak Life" playing repeatedly in my head. I am reminded that we all have the power within us to speak life into any situation. It’s up to us to choose how we use our words and whether we will use them for good or for bad. Proverbs 18:20–21, states, “From the fruit of their mouth a person’s stomach is filled; with the harvest of their lips they are satisfied.” The words that come from our mouths will determine how our souls are nourished and satisfied.

We can use our words to bring life and hope in times of darkness. When we use our words to encourage, build up, and bless others, we are speaking life. Just as words can be used to tear down, they can also be used to bring life to an otherwise dark situation. It’s up to us to choose our words wisely and to speak life into every situation. Proverbs 10:11 says, “The mouth of the righteous is a fountain of life.” When we use our words to speak life, we can bring hope and salvation to those who are in need.

Speaking life is an integral part of our Christian walk. We must use our words to exhort one another and to glorify our God! When we use our words to share the goodness of God, we are using our words to draw people to Christ. We are called to share the news of hope in Jesus Christ and share the gift of salvation. When we speak life into a situation, it can shed light on a seemingly hopeless situation. We must be intentional and use our words wisely!

Just like a gardener carefully tends to the plants in a garden, we must carefully tend to our words and speak life into every situation. Think of speaking life as a seed. Just like a seed planted in the soil with the right nutrients and water produce a crop, our words need to be planted in the right environment in order to be effective and productive, ensuring that we use our words to sow good seeds into the lives of those around us. We must be careful to plant the right kind of seed in order to bring forth life. Our words have the power to change lives when we speak life into every situation! Become a vessel, being intentional and purpose to share God’s love and grace! Let’s use our words to speak life! ©Rita Larson 5/8/2023
