Have you ever noticed how much time and energy we spend worrying about things that are completely out of our control? It's like we have this internal need to fix everything, even when it's impossible. But the truth is, worrying does us absolutely no good. In fact, it only weighs us down and steals our joy. Matthew 6:27 reminds us, "Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature?" It tells us that worrying doesn't change anything. It doesn't add one inch to our height or solve any of our problems. So why do we continue to let worry consume us?

The Bible is full of wisdom and guidance, and when it comes to worrying, it has a lot to say. Jesus Himself tells us in John 14:27 "Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid." Simply put, He advises us to calm down and not let our hearts be troubled. He knows that worry only causes harm to our emotional well-being and even our physical health. When we constantly worry, it drains us of our energy and leaves us feeling exhausted. It's like we're running on a treadmill, expending all this effort but never actually getting anywhere.
But here's the thing: we don't have to carry the weight of worry on our shoulders alone. Jesus cares for us deeply and wants to take our burdens away. He tells us in John 16:33 "I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world." Only in Him, we can find peace and overcome the troubles of this world. We don't have to face them alone. We have a loving Father who is always there for us, ready to comfort and support us.

So why do we continue to worry when we have such a loving and caring Savior? It's because we often forget to abide in His word and trust in His promises. We get caught up in the chaos and uncertainty of life, forgetting that we have a God who is in control of it all. We need to remind ourselves daily to cast our worries upon Him, knowing that He will take care of them.
When we choose to let go of worry and trust in God's love and provision, something incredible happens. Our perspective shifts, and we begin to experience true peace and joy. We no longer waste our time and energy on things we can't control, but instead, focus on what truly matters - our relationship with God and the love He has for us.
So, let's make a conscious effort to stop worrying and start trusting. Let's remember the words of Matthew 6:27 and allow them to sink deep into our hearts. Worrying does us no good, but abiding in God's word and casting our cares upon Him brings freedom and peace beyond measure. Jesus is calling us to calm down and cheer up because He has already overcome the world. Let's choose faith over fear and find rest in His loving embrace. ©Rita Larson 8/23/2023
