As our vacation comes to a close in Belize, there are so many things I am thankful for. I am thankful for my amazing husband and the heart that he has for people. I am thankful for all of my family and friends that helped make our trip possible. I am thankful that we met some amazing people along the way. I am thankful for God's handiwork and all of the beauty that He created for us to enjoy. While I can go on and on, sharing my gratitude, all of the "Thanks BE to God" and God alone. Without God, I wouldn't be who I am, and where I am today.

In 1 Corinthians 15:57-58, the Apostle Pauls says to the Corinthians, “Thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.” As Christians, we should be thankful to God for His provision and His unending love, giving Him praise for His victory over sin and death, bringing transformation to our lives. In these verses, Paul is doing more than just saying “Thank You” to God, he is acknowledging Him and recognizing Him for all He has done. He is affirming that it is only because of God that we can now have victory over sin and death through the cross.
It is important to understand that acknowledgment means recognizing something as truth. When we acknowledge, we give recognition to the importance of something or someone. It is an expression of gratitude, admiration, or approval. It is a way of expressing appreciation and thankfulness. In Paul’s words, he is acknowledging God for all He has done and for the victory He has given us over death. He is also expressing his confidence in God and His promises, including eternal life.

The affirmation Paul is giving is a call to action. He is encouraging us to be fruitful and to fulfill the good work that God has called us to do. In Psalm 86:12, it says, “I will praise you, Lord my God, with all my heart; I will glorify your name forever.” This is an affirmation of God’s power and might and a call to action to praise Him and glorify His name. In Ephesians 2:10, it says “For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” This is a reminder that we are called to do good works in the name of Jesus Christ.

Let us be thankful to God and acknowledge Him for all He has done. Let us affirm His power and His promises, and let us be fruitful and fulfill the good work He has called us to do. Let us always give Him thanks, for it is only through Him that we have victory over sin and death. As Paul said, "Thanks Be to God!" ©Rita Larson 6/16/2023
