It is a new day! We no longer have to live under the old covenant! Instead of living under the law, we have freedom! God has given us a new covenant. But what does this mean? The Bible tells us in Hebrews 8:6 : "But now hath he obtained a more excellent ministry, by how much also he is the mediator of a better covenant, which was established upon better promises." Jesus is the mediator of this new and better covenant, which is far greater than the old covenant. This is because it is founded on better promises and is backed by an oath between God and Jesus that it will be everlasting and eternal.

The New Covenant provides us with a way to be forgiven of our sins and to be reconciled with God. Through Jesus’ death on the cross, He bridged the gap between mankind and God and provided us with a way to be in a relationship with Him. This covenant is not just a one-time event, but it is a living and breathing covenant. Through this covenant, God is constantly allowing us to experience a daily renewing and fresh start in our lives. We see this new covenant carried out by the Trinity: God the Father, Jesus the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

God the Father is the one who initiated the New Covenant. He is the one who sent His Son, Jesus, to be the mediator of this covenant. He is the one who made all the promises and issued the oath that this covenant would be everlasting and eternal. He is the one who gave us the gift of grace and mercy and who continually works in our lives to draw us closer to Him.
Jesus, the Son of God, is the one who made the ultimate sacrifice to pay the debt for our sins so that we could be reconciled with God. He is the one who took all of our sins and burdens upon Himself and went to the cross to die for us. He is the one who fulfilled all the promises of the New Covenant and is the mediator of this New Covenant.
The Holy Spirit is the one who works in our lives to bring us closer to God and to help us understand the promises of the New Covenant. The Holy Spirit is the one who helps us to live out our faith and to understand the depth of God’s love for us. Through the power of the Holy Spirit, believers receive salvation, get filled with power, become sealed and secured in the promises of God, and are sanctified being cleansed and made holy. The Holy Spirit reveals God’s thoughts, teaches, and guides believers into all truth. The Holy Spirit helps believers during their times of weakness and intercedes on their behalf.

Romans 4:6-8 reminds us that “Blessed is he whose transgressions are forgiven, whose sins are covered. Blessed is the man whose sin the LORD does not count against him and in whose spirit is no deceit.” This is a beautiful reminder of the promises of the New Covenant of Grace and how we can be forgiven of our sins and be in a relationship with God. This is why the New Covenant of Grace is so much better than the Covenant of Law; it is unconditional, and it is based on the love and grace of God. Paul tells us in 2 Corinthians 1:20, “For all the promises of God find their Yes in Him [Jesus]. That is why it is through Him that we utter our Amen to God for His glory.” All the promises of God are found in Jesus. He is the source of our salvation, and He promises to be with us forever.

Again, in Romans 8:38-39 we are reminded, “For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” This is why the New Covenant is so much better than the Old Covenant of Law; it is based on God’s love for us, and nothing can ever separate us from that love.
The New Covenant is founded on the unconditional love that our Heavenly Father has for us. It is a reminder that He has forgiven our sins and that we can be reconciled with Him through Jesus. It is a reminder to trust in His promises and to seek His guidance for our lives. The Power from the indwelling of the Holy Spirit gives us the knowledge, strength, and guidance we need to carry out God's purpose and plan in our lives. Thank you, Father! ©Rita Larson 9/1/2023
