"The Past Does Not Dictate Your Future"

We all have a past, some skeletons in our closets, skeletons of all different shapes and sizes. Our skeletons are mistakes we have made in the past that the enemy will use to try and tell us that we are not good enough. Forgiving others of past mistakes is often easier than forgiving ourselves. It can be hard to forgive ourselves and let go of the past. If we don't let go and accept that we have been forgiven, we can all too easily become stuck in the same place, unable to move forward and embrace the life God intended for us. Our past does not dictate our future; only God does. He knows the plans He has for us. When we tap into the power of the Holy Spirit, we can CHOOSE to leave our mistakes in the past and move forward with a new life in Christ.

The apostle Paul wrote in 2 Corinthians 5:17, "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!" We can choose to accept God's grace and move forward with the identity He has intended for us. When we choose to leave our mistakes in the past, we open ourselves up to a life full of joy, peace, and purpose.
Romans 8:1-2 tells us, "There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. For the law of the Spirit of life has set you free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death." This scripture reminds us that we are given the ultimate freedom when we accept God's grace. We are no longer bound by the mistakes of the past. We can be free to embrace the forgiveness and mercy that God has offered through His Son, Jesus Christ. This freedom will allow us to live the life He has intended for us.
Psalm 103:12 says, "As far as the east is from the west, so far does he remove our transgressions from us." This is a reminder that God's forgiveness and mercy is limitless. He will always be willing to forgive our mistakes and offer us a new start in life.

Jeremiah 29:11 gives assurance that God has plans to provide us with hope and a future. When we focus our attention on God's plans for our lives, we can be sure that He will lead us where He wants us to go. We can trust that He knows what is best for us and that He has a plan for us that is full of joy and peace.
Finally, the Bible tells us in Proverbs 3:5-6 to "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight." When we submit our lives to the Lord, He will guide us in the right direction. We can trust in His discernment and follow His lead.
The power of mistakes is undeniable, but so is the power of God's grace. Through His grace, we are given the opportunity to walk in total forgiveness, leave our mistakes in the past, and move forward with a new life in Him. In doing so, we are free to experience the joy and freedom of a God-centered life. When we trust in the Lord and submit to His will, we can be sure that we will be living the life that He has planned for us. So, let's make the choice to live a God-centered life and leave the past in the past, going onward and upward! ©Rita Larson 10/29/2023
