The devil, our enemy, is always looking for a way to manipulate and control our perception of truth. He will use any means necessary to distort the truth and lead us away from God's will. He will twist the truth, he will manipulate what is said, and he will use any means possible to take the focus away from God. We have to be careful of what we lend our ear to and guard our hearts from untruth.

2 Corinthians 11:14-15 tells us, "And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works." This verse tells us that Satan disguises himself as an angel of light in order to deceive us and lead us away from the truth. He will use those around us to manipulate the truth and make us believe something that isn’t true.

Sometimes our own perception of what is right and what is wrong can become twisted by the enemy. We may find ourselves making excuses for something we said or did and justifying it as a way of making our own sin tolerable. In fact, we may find that we are taking those excuses and using them to manipulate others into believing something that does not line up with the Word of God. That is how the enemy works. If sin becomes tolerable, we will not see a need to change. Excuses for an untruth or behavior are a guarantee that the enemy is at work and the truth is being twisted. We need to be diligent in discerning between what is true and what is not. We have the Word of God and the Holy Spirit to help us in this task. The Word of God is always going to be the ultimate fact-checker. Do the words or the actions hold true when you compare them to the Word of God?
The Word works, and the truth always prevails. In John 8:32, Jesus says, “And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” This verse tells us that when we know the truth, we are free from the lies and manipulation of the enemy. We are liberated from the bondage of sin and freed to live a life in Christ. It is only through the truth that we can be set free from the lies of the enemy and live a life of faith and obedience to God.

In Ephesians 6:11-18, we are instructed to take up God’s armor and use it to withstand the evil schemes of the devil. We have to be aware of what is going on in our lives and guard ourselves against Satan’s lies and manipulation. We must be strong in our faith and trust in God’s Word. We must stand firm in the truth and be ready to speak it even when it is unpopular. Sometimes, it means walking away from people you care about when it is known that the truth is being manipulated.
In Proverbs 12:19, we read, “The lip of truth shall be established for ever: but a lying tongue is but for a moment.” This verse tells us that what is true will always stand the test of time while lies will quickly be exposed. We must be diligent in seeking out the truth and standing firm in it. We must be careful not to be swayed by the lies of the enemy and instead focus on what is true and right.

Satan will always try to control and manipulate what our perception of truth is. We have the Word of God and the Holy Spirit to fact-check and help us discern what is true and just. We must always speak the truth and do what is right, even when it is unpopular. If you find yourself making an excuse for something you said or did, that is a good indicator that the enemy is at work. Remember, God's Word and the truth will always prevail! If there is uncertainty, break out the Ultimate Fact-Checker, the Word of God! If it stands up against the Word of God, rest assured, it is true and right in the eyes of the Father! ©Rita Larson 11/6/2023
