Walking with Purpose

Over the years, several times when I would walk into a room, I had people comment that I "Walk with a Purpose.” I never really understood exactly what that meant until recently. You see, I went through a very trying time with my health and was living in excruciating back pain, with numbness in part of my legs and feet and shooting pains in the areas that were not numb. To stand up straight was intolerable. Not knowing what was happening, I remember telling a friend, "I wish I could walk with purpose again.” Finally, after major back surgery and miraculous healing (to God be ALL of the glory), I am pain-free and able to "Walk with Purpose" again. This storm was rough, but looking back on the other side, I have a much deeper understanding of what "Walking with a Purpose" now means.

Since my surgery, several people have said to me that I look "different,” there is "just something about you,” "I have a glow," and "bring energy with me when I walk into a room.” The difference is that I now understand what "Walking with a Purpose" Is, and I am so grateful that I can "Walk with Purpose,” standing tall, knowing exactly who I am. When you are on the other side of the storm, and you can see God’s work, you do not doubt your identity in Christ and know that God has a particular purpose and plan for your life. I may not know precisely what it is, but I know everything I need to know. I know that I serve a miracle-working, all-powerful God that loves me and has made the ultimate sacrifice so that I can experience His never failing love and unending Grace and Mercy. For that, I am forever grateful. My purpose is His purpose!

Do you ever feel like you have a purpose but aren’t sure what it is or how to fulfill it? Many of us, including myself, have felt this way before. However, God has a divine plan and purpose for each of our lives. As we seek Him, He will reveal His will and show us the path so that we can “Walk with Purpose.”

Romans 8:28 says, “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are called according to His purpose.” In other words, everything that happens in our lives, the joys, the sorrows, the successes, and the failures- are all woven together and used by God to accomplish His ultimate purpose for us. God is always at work in our lives, even when we don’t see it or understand it, and He will use all of our experiences to mold us to fulfill His purpose. Just as we were created uniquely by Him, His purpose is something we are uniquely designed and equipped to carry out.

We ALL have one common purpose. We are all called to share God’s love with others. We are called to be His ambassadors here on earth, spreading His message of hope and salvation. In Matthew 28:18-20, God says, “Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world.”

Ephesians 2:10 reminds us, “For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.” God made us each unique and special, with gifts and talents that can be used to further His kingdom. God has already prepared special projects for us to do, and He has equipped us to do them. Whatever God has called you to do, He will ensure it works out for your good. He will provide the resources, wisdom, and guidance you need to fulfill it.

We can have confidence knowing that the same power that raised Jesus from the dead (Romans 8:11) works in us. God is able to do immeasurably more than we can ask or imagine (Ephesians 3:20). He has plans to prosper us and not to harm us, plans to give us hope and a future (Jeremiah 29:11). 1 Peter 2:9 defines our identity: “But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God’s own possession, so that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light.”

The world needs the unique gifts that you have been given! No matter what your purpose is, seek God’s wisdom, direction, and provision. Be patient and joyfully embrace the journey. His timing is the best timing, and His ways are the best ways! As God reveals your purpose, you’ll see how your unique design, passions, and life experiences fit perfectly into His master plan. So, boldly and confidently, “Walk with Purpose,” knowing precisely WHO you are and that He is with you every single step of the way! ©Rita Larson 4/6/2023
