"What Are You Chasing?"

In the fast-paced and materialistic society we live in, it is easy to get caught up in the pursuit of wealth and possessions. Many people spend their entire lives chasing after money, collecting and storing it, only to realize that they cannot take any of it with them when they die. It is disheartening to see how the desire for money and what it can buy has become the driving force behind people's lives, often overshadowing their commitment to God. However, in Matthew 6:24, it says "No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one and love the other; or else he will hold to the one and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon." Jesus reminds us that we can only have one master.

As Christians, we are called to serve Jesus as our Master. The Word of God teaches us that our focus should not be on accumulating wealth and material possessions, but on seeking His wisdom and serving Him wholeheartedly. In 1 Timothy 6:10, it states "For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows." This serves as a powerful reminder that our priorities should not be centered around money, but rather on our relationship with God.
It is important for us to examine our thoughts and the things that occupy our minds. Are we constantly consumed by thoughts of money, possessions, and material gain? Or are we focused on serving Jesus and living according to His teachings? Whatever we store up in our hearts and minds is what we will ultimately focus on and think about.
Choosing to serve Jesus as our Master means placing Him above all else in our lives. It means seeking His wisdom and guidance in all our decisions, rather than relying solely on our own understanding. It means surrendering our desire for worldly wealth and instead trusting in His provision. Serving Jesus as our Master requires a shift in perspective and a renewed commitment to putting Him first in everything we do.

In a world that idolizes money and material possessions, choosing Jesus as our Master may not always be easy. It requires us to swim against the current of societal norms and stand firm in our faith. However, the rewards of serving Jesus far outweigh any temporary pleasure or gain that money can provide. He offers us eternal life, love, peace, and true fulfillment.
So, I ask you today, who is your Master? Are you serving money and allowing it to dictate your thoughts and actions? Or have you chosen to serve Jesus and align your life with His Word? Let us remember the words of Matthew 6:24 and make a conscious decision to place Jesus as the Master of our hearts and minds. In doing so, we will experience true joy, purpose, and fulfillment that surpasses anything this world has to offer. ©Rita Larson 10/01/2023
