"What Is In It For Me?"

As believers, we are called to a higher purpose. We are called to be the light of the world and make a difference in the lives of those around us. This calling requires us to have a close relationship with God. Deuteronomy 6:5, "And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might."

What is in it for me? That is an easy question or thought when we think about surrendering our hearts to the Lord. Our relationship with God is not about what He can do for us but about who He is and what we can do to glorify God! 1 Corinthians 6:20, "For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which is God's." We need to take time to know God intimately and to understand His heart. He made the ultimate sacrifice when He bought us to free us from the bondage of sin. God’s love is unconditional and infinite!

Let's look at Colossians starting with Colossians 3:15, "And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful." I don't know about you, but God has done so much in my life; it is a privilege to give God honor. I am walking in a life of total restoration, and looking back; I can see how God had had me in the palm of His hand when I didn't even realize it. There is truth in the fact that hindsight is always 20/20. There is a difference between "being" thankful because that is what we are supposed to do and BECOMING thankful because you know all God has done for you! When you BECOME thankful, peace follows because you have certainty of who you are in Christ. You know that you have the love and protection that comes with being part of a Chosen Generation!

Colossians 3:16 "Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord." The more I study God's Word and draw closer to Him, the more clearly, I see how God wants us to see things through His eyes. When we can recognize His grace in all things, we cannot help but be grateful for all He has done. When you KNOW how much He loves you, joy spills over into every area of your life! You get the incredible privilege of sharing with others what God has done, admonishing and encouraging others, knowing He can do the same for them! It puts a song in your heart and some rhythm in your steps. Before you know it, you will be dancing like no one is watching!

Colossians 3:17 "And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by Him." This one verse sums up how we are to approach every day. We are to do everything as though we are doing it unto God. When we face every situation with gratitude towards God, we can see blessings in all things. Storms do have a silver lining!

We are called to honor God in all that we do! Remember, it is not about what God can do for us! It is about who God is and what we can do to glorify Him! When we focus on building a relationship with God and surrender ourselves to be committed to Him, we are covered by His love and protection. When we honor God by giving Him our best, we get God's best in return! ©Rita Larson 4/13/2023
