What Is The World Coming To?

ree

It has been one of those weeks where I have had to remind myself several times where my source of strength comes from. Have you had times when you look around and think, "What is this world coming to?" I have! That is when I am reminded that I am in this world but not of this world. The reality is that in this life, it can often seem like everything is constantly shaking and changing. Jobs, family, relationships, and other personal matters can leave us feeling uncertain and without a reliable foundation to stand on. But as believers, we have the knowledge that Jesus Christ is our solid rock, a sure foundation that can never be shaken.

It is in 1 Corinthians 10:8 that the Apostle Paul writes: “For we are in this world but not of this world.” We are human and have to deal with the things of this world and the temptations around us. As believers, when we are born again, we become part of God's Kingdom. We live in this world, and we still have to deal with our flesh, but we need to remember whose Kingdom we belong to. We live in this world, but as believers, we belong to the Kingdom of God. We need to remember that Jesus Christ is our cornerstone, and He is our only source of true stability. We can find peace in the knowledge that no matter what comes our way and the things of this world let us down, Jesus will always remain steadfast and true.

In Matthew, Jesus tells his disciples, “Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock” (Matthew 7:24-25). We can stand on this Word as further assurance that if we build our lives on the foundation of Jesus Christ, no matter how turbulent the world around us may become, our faith will remain unshaken.

Psalms also speaks of the stability that can be found in Jesus, writing, “The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer; My God, my strength, in whom I will trust; My shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold” (Psalm 18:2). We can find peace in the knowledge that no matter how uncertain the world around us may be, we can trust in the Lord’s strength and protection.

The book of Isaiah also speaks of stability and peace we find in Jesus, stating, “Incline your ear, and come to Me. Hear, and your soul shall live; and I will make an everlasting covenant with you - the sure mercies of David” (Isaiah 55:3). This covenant is everlasting and holds the promise of stability and fulfillment for those who choose to embrace it. God is seeking people who will not only hear His Word but also act upon it. He is looking for individuals who will make Him the cornerstone of their lives, the rock upon which they build their foundation. This covenant promises mercy and grace with redemption and salvation. This is the promise of an everlasting life with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ!

When we put our trust in Jesus Christ, we can have peace in knowing that we are in this world but not of this world. No matter how uncertain and unstable the world around us may be, Jesus Christ is our sure foundation; He will remain steadfast and true no matter what storms come our way. His love is unwavering, and He will remain faithful and constant, even when everything else in our lives is shaking. Regardless of what is going on around us, we can trust in His strength and the power of His might! ©Rita Larson 11/9/2023
