It can be so easy to get caught up in the worries of life, but what does it really mean to cast our cares on God and not worry? It means trusting that God loves us deeply, cares for us, and forgives us no matter what. It means believing in His power to provide for us and to work all things together for our good. It means turning our focus away from the things we cannot change and towards the things that do matter. It means accepting God’s promises to us as believers and allowing His peace to guard our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.

It can be hard to trust in God when we are struggling with worry. We can feel like worry is a sign of strength, but it is actually a sign of unbelief. When we worry, we forget the power of God over our circumstances, and we forget His promises to us. We tend to hold on to and focus on the things that we cannot change instead of the things that matter. We fail to trust in His power and His goodness.
The Bible has much to say about casting our cares upon God. In 1 Peter 5:7, it says, “Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.” Here, we are reminded that God cares for us deeply and wants us to trust in Him. The Bible also tells us in Psalm 55:22, “Cast your cares on the Lord and He will sustain you; He will never let the righteous be shaken.” This verse promises us that God will sustain us and never leave us in our time of need.

In Psalm 56:3-4, it says, “When I am afraid, I put my trust in you. In God, whose word I praise, in God I trust; I will not be afraid. What can mortal man do to me?” This verse reminds us that when we are afraid, we can put our trust in God. We can trust that His word is true and that He will protect us from harm.
Matthew 11:28-30 also speaks of casting our cares onto God, saying, “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light." Here, Jesus is telling us to come to Him and cast our worries and anxieties onto Him. He is telling us that He will give us rest and take away the burden of our cares. He is inviting us to trust in Him and His promises, and to rest in His love and care.

Finally, in Philippians 4:6-7, it says, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” This verse teaches us to pray instead of worrying and to trust that God will give us His peace.
Casting our cares on God and not worrying can be difficult, but it is essential for us to trust in Him. We must believe that He loves us, cares for us, and will take care of our every need. We must focus on the things that really matter and not on the things that we cannot change. We must believe in His promises and allow His peace to guard our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. So, what is worry a sign of? Do you believe in God's promises or are you dealing with some unbelief? ©Rita Larson 10/03/2023
