"What to do?"

We are all too familiar with situations where we feel hopeless, scared, and uncertain. We may find ourselves facing a formidable foe, outgunned and outmanned, about to be undone. We don’t know what to do. This was exactly the situation that Jehoshaphat found himself in. In 2 Chronicles 20:12, the Bible says, “O our God, wilt thou not judge them? for we have no might against this great company that cometh against us; neither know we what to do: but our eyes are upon thee.”

In the midst of crises, catastrophe, turmoil, and tragedy, Jehoshaphat’s words remind us that we don’t have to understand what to do in order to trust God. He knew that in his own power he was helpless and limited, but God was unlimited. He knew that even though he didn’t have the answers, God did.

The Bible also reminds us in Philippians 4:6-7, “Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” When we trust in God and bring our requests to Him, we can be sure that the peace of God will surround us in difficult times.

Psalm 27:1 also reminds us to trust in the Lord, “The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?” In times of crisis, we must remember that we can trust in God and His strength. He will give us the courage to face whatever comes our way.

We don’t have to know what to do in order to trust God. God knows what to do and He has the power to do it. We have the assurance that when we put our trust in Him, He will be with us in the midst of every situation. In the words of Jehoshaphat, “We don’t know what to do BUT, God, we know that You know what to do and You have the power to do it.” ©Rita Larson 6/29/2023
