"Who Is Hungry?"

This past week while in Belize, we had the opportunity to eat some amazing food, trying some different spices from the region and seeing some new twists on food that we never thought of! For example, I was blown away when we had our very first Marquesita. It is a thin waffle cone, that has nutella spread on it and then stuffed with Edam cheese. I would have never thought thar the unique combination would be so good!

We also had the opportunity to learn about the Cassava plant and it's root, Yucca. Interestingly enough, if you eat it raw without soaking it, it is toxic. It has cyanide in it. After finding this out, I decided I would just pass altogether.  I started thinking about all of the different things we eat, and how we can put them together to create a totally different flavor. I began to think about words, and how we can take words and use them in different ways, whether it be negative or positive, helpful or hurtful.

As believers, we have the awesome privilege of being able to speak God's Word over our lives. When we learn to speak the Word of God, we are engaging the power of the Creator of the Universe! In the Bible, we read in Hebrews 4:12, “For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.” There is power in God's Word. Through His Word, we can discern truth from deceit, dissecting the innermost parts of our spirit and soul. The Word of God has the ability to peel back the hardened layers of our hearts so that we can be transformed into who we are in Christ.

The power of God's Word has been given to us so that we can use it to speak life into our situations and circumstances. We can use it to speak God's promises into our life. Proverbs 18:21 says, “Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit.” (NKJV) We must learn to speak life into our situations. The Word of God has the miraculous power to bring about change in every situation that we are dealing with. Death and life are both in the power of the tongue. We can control our situation based on how we respond to it. We need to remember that we can either speak defeat or we can speak victory over every situation. God's Word is irrefutable when we speak it over our lives. Speak Life!

Jesus Himself used God's Word to overcome temptation. In Matthew 4:4, we read, “But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.’” Jesus knew the power of God's Word, and He used it to overcome temptation. Just as bread sustains the physical body, the Word of God is what will sustain our spiritual being. To get the nutritional benefits of bread, we must eat it. To get the spiritual benefits of God's Word, we must partake of it His Word! We need a steady spiritual diet to nourish and maintain our spiritual body, just as we need to physically eat in order to nourish our physical bodies.

It's time to tap into God's Word to maintain our spiritual well-being. We need to eat a steady diet of the Word of God daily. We can open up the Bible and pull out any recipe that we need to sustain us. All the needs of mankind are met, satisfied, and fully supplied through the Word of God. Let's speak God’s Word over our life and see His promises come to pass! ©Rita Larson 6/17/2023
