"Ye Have Not, Because Ye Ask Not!"

Do you ever feel like you are just getting by? That no matter what you do, you just can’t seem to get ahead? If so, don’t despair! Our Father longs to bless us with His favor, but He wants us to come to Him and ask. Matthew 7:7-8 says, “Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.” If He didn't expect us to ask, He wouldn't tell us to. This is reinforced in the prayer of Jabez, 1 Chronicles 4:10, “And Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, Oh that thou wouldest bless me indeed, and enlarge my coast, and that thine hand might be with me, and that thou wouldest keep me from evil, that it may not grieve me! And God granted him that which he requested.”

Psalm 37: 4, "Delight yourself in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart." When you invest time to delight in the Lord, you open the door so that He is able to deposit His plans and desires for your life into you. Spending time in His presence, allows God to be able to mold you into who He has created you to be. You will develop a natural yearning for the things of God. God will bless you in abundance when your desires match up with His desires for you!

So what does it mean to be blessed? It means that you have been gifted by God to be favored, to have pleasure bestowed upon you, to be filled with joy and happiness, and to be healthy and successful. When we come to our Father for a blessing, He is ready and willing to give us what we need. We are reminded in James 4:2, “Ye have not, because ye ask not.” We have to come to Him and ask for our blessing. We have to be specific and ask for what we need.

Ephesians 1:3 says, “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ.” We are blessed with salvation, forgiveness, the gift of the Holy Spirit, and eternal life. But these are part of the package when we receive salvation. When we come to the Father's Storehouse and ask, we can receive even greater blessings from our Father. We can receive the best of what He has to offer if we only ask. He puts His best in front of us, but it is up to us to choose it. So don’t be afraid to come to God and ask for His blessings. He is ready and willing to give us what we need. He loves us and wants us to have the best of what He has to offer.

Father, we thank You for Your love and mercy. We thank You for Your blessings and for the favor You have shown us. We ask that You continue to bless us in all things, that Your hand may be with us in all that we do. We know that You desire to bless us and grant us the desires of our hearts. We ask that You grant us the favor, joy, happiness, and success that only You can give. Open our eyes to the blessings around us and open our hearts to the Holy Spirit to be our guide. Give us wisdom to ask and the courage to choose Your best. In Jesus’ name we pray, amen. ©Rita Larson 7/6/2023
