Marriage is a beautiful and sacred union, but it is not without its challenges. There are times when frustrations arise, and we may find ourselves becoming irritated with our spouse. In those moments, it is important to remember Romans 8:28 and apply it to our marriage. Romans 8:28 states, "And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose." This verse applies not only to our individual lives but also to our marriages. When we find ourselves frustrated with our spouse, we must recognize that God can use this frustration for our good. God can take the problems in our marriage and turn them into building blocks for transformation. Instead of allowing frustration to consume us, we should recognize that God is calling our attention to areas that need improvement. He is at work in our marriage, strengthening the weak areas and molding us into the couple He desires us to be.

In the midst of marital difficulties, it can be easy to lose sight of the bigger picture. It is during these times that we must turn to the Word of God for guidance and encouragement. One scripture that aptly applies to this situation is Proverbs 3:5-6. It says, "Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight." This reminds us that we should trust in God's plan for our marriage, even when we don't understand it. He knows what is best for us and will guide us through any challenges we may face.
Ecclesiastes 4:12 speaks directly to the strength and power of marriage, which says, "Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken." This verse emphasizes the importance of unity in marriage and reminds us that when we rely on God as a strand in our relationship, we are able to overcome any obstacle that comes our way. When we keep our eyes on God, we grow closer and stronger as a couple.

Another scripture that speaks directly to the ability of God to use our problems for good is James 1:2-4. It says, "Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything." This passage reminds us that through trials and difficulties, our faith is tested and strengthened. In the same way, the problems we face in our marriage can lead us to grow stronger as individuals and as a couple.
Finally, Ephesians 4:2-3 offers valuable insights into how we can navigate through frustrations in our marriage. It says, "Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace." This scripture emphasizes the importance of humility, patience, and love in our interactions with our spouse. By embracing these qualities, we create an environment where God's work can thrive, allowing Him to strengthen our marriage and bring about positive change.

In conclusion, when faced with frustrations in our marriage, we must remember that God can use these challenges for good. He is calling our attention to the areas that need improvement and is at work strengthening the weak areas in our relationship. By trusting in Him, seeking His wisdom through His Word, and submitting to His will, we can overcome these obstacles and experience growth and transformation in our marriage. Let us embrace these difficulties with excitement, allowing God to work in us and through us, knowing that He is working for the good of those who love Him! ©Rita Larson 9/6/2023
