"The Great Escape Series: Israelites"

ree

In Exodus 12:28-42, the scripture recounts the remarkable story of the escape of the Israelites from Egypt after being enslaved for 430 years. The significance of this event cannot be overstated, as it not only marked the liberation of a people who had endured immense suffering, but it also symbolized God's faithfulness to His promises. Throughout the Old Testament, God had made a covenant with Abraham and his descendants (which includes all of us today) assuring them of their future redemption and inheritance. Genesis 12:1-3 states, "Now the LORD had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father's house, unto a land that I will shew thee: And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing: And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed." The Israelites' escape from Egypt was a powerful manifestation of God's unwavering commitment to His chosen people.

The timing of the Israelites' escape from Egypt was significant. It commemorates the season of Passover and serves as a testament to God's perfect timing and divine orchestration. He had planned this moment since the days of Abraham, and now He was fulfilling His promise by leading His chosen people out of Egypt. This demonstrates that God's timing is always perfect, even when it may seem delayed or uncertain to us. Ecclesiastes 3:1 reinforces God's perfect timing, "To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven: Just as He fulfilled His promise to the Israelites, we can have confidence that God will also fulfill His promises to us in due course. God, in His infinite wisdom, ensured that the Israelites' deliverance would not only be a physical liberation but also a spiritual reminder of His faithfulness. The annual celebration of Passover serves as a reminder to subsequent generations of God's miraculous intervention and His enduring promises. "

The escape of the Israelites from Egypt not only demonstrated God's faithfulness but also highlighted His meticulous attention to detail. Throughout their time in slavery, the Israelites must have questioned whether God had forgotten about them. However, the events that unfolded during their escape were a testament to the fact that God had been working behind the scenes, carefully planning their release. From the ten plagues that afflicted Egypt to the Passover instructions given to Moses, every aspect of their liberation was meticulously orchestrated by God.

This story serves as a powerful reminder for us today. Just as God did not forget His promises to Abraham and the Israelites, He will not forget His promises to us. 2 Corinthians 1:20 tells us "For all the promises of God in him are yea, and in him Amen, unto the glory of God by us." It may sometimes feel like we are trapped in our own metaphorical Egypt, facing challenges and difficulties that seem insurmountable. However, we can take solace in knowing that God is always with us, working in His perfect timing to fulfill His promises.

Having faith in God's promises requires trust and patience. We must trust that what He has spoken will come to pass and be patient as we wait for His timing. It is easy to become discouraged or doubt when circumstances do not align with our expectations or when things do not happen as quickly as we would like. Yet, just like the Israelites' escape from Egypt, God's timing is always perfect. He knows what is best for us and what needs to happen in order for His promises to be fulfilled.

The story of the Israelites' escape from Egypt serves as a powerful reminder of God's faithfulness and His commitment to keeping His promises. Rest assured, God is always working behind the scenes, even when it may seem like He has forgotten about us. As we navigate through life's challenges, hold on to our faith and trust in God's perfect timing. What He has said, He will do! ©Rita Larson 8/30/2023
