Christmas is a time to celebrate the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ. It’s a time of giving and receiving. As parents, we instill in our children the idea of writing a letter to Santa to put in their wish list. We think about what we want to get for Christmas or what we want to give to others. We focus on trying to get others exactly what we think they would like to have. But what if we took a different approach this Christmas season? What if we took the time to communicate with God and express our heart’s desire? That is what He wants. He wants to grant us our heart's desires!

God tells us in His word to “ask and it shall be given you; seek and you shall find; knock and it shall be opened unto you” (Matthew 7:7). He wants us to come to Him with our needs and desires, having faith that He will answer our prayers and carry out His promises to us. This Christmas season, let’s take some time to communicate with God and let Him know what is in our hearts.
One of the most important aspects of asking God for something is having faith that He will answer our prayers and carry out His promises. In Mark 11:24, Jesus says, “Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.” This verse is a reminder that when we come to God with our heart's desires, we should do so with faith that He will answer our prayers and make our dreams come true.

In addition, when we come to God with our heart's desires, we should remember to be thankful for what He has already done for us. In Philippians 4:6, Paul writes, “Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.” While we come to God with our requests, we should also be thankful for all that He has already done in our lives. We serve an awesome God!
Finally, when we come to God with our heart's desires, we should also remember that He has plans that are beyond what we can imagine. In Jeremiah 29:11, God says, “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.” He has plans that are beyond what we can possibly imagine, and He will answer our prayers according to His will. We just have to have faith and stand firm on His Word, knowing He will do what He says He will do. He is the God of Yes and AMEN!
This Christmas season, let’s take the time to communicate with God and let Him know what is in our hearts. Let’s come to Him with faith, with thanksgiving, and with the understanding that His plans are greater than anything we can imagine. Let’s ask Him for what we want, the desires of our hearts, and trust that He will carry out His promises to us. ©Rita Larson 12/1/2023
